David Pritchard, Joint Managing Director at H&H Harrison and Hetherington

Harrison & Hetherington have announced that the 2019 Borderway UK Dairy Expo will take place at the Borderway Exhibition Centre, Carlisle, on Saturday 9th March 2019.

Attracting world class dairy cattle from all over the UK, high profile international judges, as well as leading industry exhibitors and commentators, this National dairy showcase, now in its eighth year, is an established fixture in the dairy industry calendar. Recent years has seen this event grow to be a major dairy sector showcase, offering an annual focal point for all the latest developments in dairy farm management including genetics, animal health, equipment and technology.

It is evident, through the hundreds of head of cattle which are being showed, that Borderway Dairy Expo is a prominent shop window for British dairy genetics and highlights the quality of stock that the UK has to offer. The 2018 event saw the incredible Peak Goldwyn Rhapsody Ex97 6E, a seventh calver from Sterndale in Derbyshire, crowned the Champion of Champions, having been awarded this accolade in 2014 and 2017. Another worthy winner in 2018 was Reserve Champion, Kedar Rhapsody, an outstanding third calver Brown Swiss from Jonathan Lochhead’s Kedar herd in Dumfries, exhibited by his partner, Jessica Miller.

These animals are shining examples of the quality of animals available in the UK and exemplifies the commitment and dedication that UK dairy farmers have made in breeding investments over many years.

Commenting on next year’s event, Event Organiser and Operations Director at Harrison & Hetherington, David Pritchard said:

“The 2018 Dairy Expo saw record entries of dairy cattle, exhibitors and attendance, with over 7,000 visitors. It really has become a leading dairy event for progressive dairy farmers.

The event is a unique, and incredibly valuable, opportunity at the start of the year to speak to a wealth of specialists on all aspects of herd management for the year ahead. Rarely do dairy farmers get the chance to attend a specialist event, offering advice on a broad range of subjects related to the profitability of their business. This is now widely recognised, and I believe explains why this event goes continuously from strength to strength.

Plans are firmly underway for our eighth event in March 2019, and we are very much looking forward to announcing another fantastic line up of well-renowned judges and exhibitors, sponsored by Holstein UK, CIS, HSBC Bank, Carrs Billington, Farmers Guardian and Norbrook.”

Companies interested in attending can now download the trade stand application form online from the Harrison and Hetherington website. Early applications are encouraged to avoid disappointment.

The John Dennison Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognises the dairy cattle breeder or exhibitor judged to be a high achiever and excellent role model within the dairy industry, will also be presented. The award is in memory of the lifetime industry contribution made by Cumbrian dairy farmer and highly regarded breeder, John Dennison. Former recipients have included Mike Miller of Shanael Holsteins, John Gribbon, Sammy McCormick of the Hilltara Holsteins and Alister Laird of Blyth Bridge, Peebleshire. The award was presented to Jimmy Wilson from the Tregibby Herd in Cardigan in Wales, at the 2018 UK Diary Expo.

The livestock schedule and entry forms will soon be available to download online or by contacting the Harrison & Hetherington Event Office on 01228 406 230.
