Nuclear industry trade mission taking place at Penrith Town Hall

Yesterday (Thursday 6 December 2018)  Eden was the destination for Sellafield Ltd’s latest Nuclear Trade Mission as it brought its ‘Tier 2’ partners to build links with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the area.

The aim of the missions are to get more local SMEs involved in Sellafield’s £2bn a year decommissioning programme.

Eden District Council hosted a networking session for local businesses at Penrith Town Hall as part of the trade mission. Each business had the opportunity to do a 2 minute pitch directly to Sellafield and its Tier 2 Partners who manage multi-million pound frameworks and contracts, followed by a speed networking session to develop conversations and find out more.

Councillor Kevin Beaty, Leader of Eden District Council said: “We are delighted to have facilitated this event and I want to thank the Eden businesses took up this fantastic opportunity to meet with Sellafield and their Tier 2 Partners. We hope that this is only the start of their discussions.”

The trade mission also went directly to the premises of Barrnon, AST signs and Eden Nuclear and Environment over the course of the day. These businesses had the opportunity to provide a tour around their premises and demonstrate their capabilities.

John Berry, Sellafield Ltd Supply Chain Manager, said: “Our Tier 2 partners had the opportunity to meet a wide range of businesses in Eden, many of them previously unknown to them, and we have already had some great feedback from the Tier 2 Partners as a result of these discussions.

“For any businesses that have missed out on this opportunity and want to get involved we are holding a number of Business Open sessions over the next 6 months and would encourage businesses to attend.”
