2018 has been a year to remember for Longtown based Haulage company Wm Armstrong and its charity partner Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland (an organisation that provides support to those with palliative and end of life care needs).

In September, five members of the Wm Armstrong team underwent a nail-biting tandem skydive from 15,000ft to raise money for the charity – requesting donations in reward for their bravery.

The initial target was £2000 but thanks to relentless fundraising efforts from each of the skydivers and a host of generous contributions, the team managed to raise an impressive £4,599 which was presented to the charity last week at Wm’s Armstrong head office in Longtown.

Cara Varty, fundraiser for Hospice at Home said “We are so fortunate to have such dedicated and committed business partners. We would like to thank Wm Armstrong for entering a team into the Skydive event, I hope the team will treasure the experience and memories for a lifetime.

“We would also like to thank each donor who has sponsored the team and all staff members for getting involved in the fundraising. The fantastic sum of £4,599.20 will enable us to continue providing a crucial service in the North and East of Cumbria and help local patients through very difficult times.”

Jennifer Whyberd, Wm Armstrong Managing Director added “We’re so proud of everyone who was involved, the fundraising efforts and all the generous contributions really exceeded expectations. We’re also hugely grateful to Hospice at Home for giving us the opportunity to participate in the skydive and support their wonderful cause. It went so well that we’ve already got plenty of people wanting to sign up next year!”

The fundraising hasn’t stopped at the skydive, the firm also has raised an additional £1,500 for the charity through various internal festive events that have been held this month which include a bake sale, raffle and ‘Christmas clothing’ days.
