Local profit for purpose property company, BEC, is celebrating a milestone this month as it’s in house grounds maintenance department turns one.

Created following the successful acquisition of local landscaping firm, Greenlands Grounds Maintenance, the creation of the team last year has allowed BEC to grow its Facilities Services offering across its portfolio and beyond.

Launching in a really tough horticultural year, the team has successfully battled difficult summer dryness to keep the grounds at Westlakes Science Park lush and green.

Steven Parry, who founded Greenlands Grounds Maintenance and joined the BEC family to lead the new team following the acquisition, commented: “Personally I’ve been overwhelmed with the care and support from the rest of the BEC team throughout the last year, and I know I speak for the rest of my team when I say we have been made very welcome. We’ve achieved a lot in 2018 but 2019 will be a bigger and better year for us – we want the beautiful grounds at Westlakes Science Park to become an award-winning asset and will be working hard to make this dream a reality.”

Steven and his team – completed by David Bond and Chris Talahoma – have undertaken a major restoration project of the main pond and surrounding paths, that were suffering from wear and tear, providing a great boost to that area of the park for the benefit of both tenants and their visitors.

In line with BEC’s low carbon golden thread, the team has also initiated Westlakes’ first green waste recycling programme. Under Steven’s guidance the team has also brought new commercial contracts on to the books.

Speaking about the milestone, BEC’s CEO Michael Pemberton commented: “Steven and his team have been instrumental in shaping the working environment at Westlakes over the last year. They have brought us greater control over our space and enabled us to make the best choices possible for our site. Embodying the values of our organisation, the team has brought us many proud moments over the past year and I know they will thrive in the coming 12 months.”

Head of Estates at BEC, Bill Graham, added more about this year’s plans: “2019 will see the creation of more woodland paths to help users of the park to get more active, together with a very special project launch – the introduction of more wild flowers – and we look forward to announcing more about this shortly.”
