Cumbria-based Thomas Graham & Sons, one of the UK’s premier independent providers of industrial supplies and steel, has won two major contracts to supply engineering tools and consumables to the nuclear industry.

After a competitive tender process, the business won a £20 million contract to be the single-source supplier to a collaboration of Nuclear Decommissioning Authority group businesses, headed by Sellafield Ltd and including Low Level Waste Repository and National Nuclear Laboratory.

It will provide power tools, hardware and consumables to the workshops on the Sellafield site as part of a four-year contract to assist maintenance, repair and operations.

With unrivalled expertise in the nuclear industry and the unique ability to cost-effectively source and supply specialist products, Thomas Graham has been working with Sellafield for many years.

Products will primarily be supplied through the local Egremont store and the new contract will enable the 127-year-old family company, winner of the 2019 Outstanding Cumbria Family Business of the Year, to create a number of new local jobs.

Thomas Graham has recently invested in infrastructure and systems to further enhance its renowned quality service to customers of all sizes, gaining ISO accreditation in environment and health and safety management. Sellafield and its partners will benefit from a new online-ordering system to maximise efficiency, reduce costs and simplify the ordering process.

A second similar contract has also been awarded to supply a network of nuclear sites across the UK managed by Magnox and Thomas Graham will work in partnership with local suppliers to efficiently deliver products over four years.

Russell Smith, Thomas Graham contracts director, said: “Winning this prestigious contract is testament to the hard work from our contracts team and the dedication from everyone across the business to deliver the best products at the best price underpinned by exceptional customer service. We are delighted to further strengthen our partnership with Sellafield and the wider UK nuclear industry.”

Roger Smith, Thomas Graham managing director, said: “We look forward to continuing our relationship with Sellafield and this contract recognises our expertise as a supplier of premium industrial products. Our customer service teams are focused on delivering the highest possible service to benefit our entire customer base, from individuals to large businesses.”
