A senior Department of Energy official has seen first-hand the specialist nuclear shipping capabilities of International Nuclear Services (INS).

Ike White, who heads the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management (EM), visited the INS marine terminal in Barrow, Cumbria, last week.

He was shown the capabilities INS offers by Pete Buchan, Kian Woodward and Andy Gray, as well as Captain Brad Worthington, Chief Officer Dave Gresham and Chief Engineer Andy Meyer.

The U.S. Department of Energy has been a key partner for INS with the relationship lasting many years.

Mr White is no stranger to the nuclear world, having spent his career in different roles within America’s Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board and the DOE’s National Nuclear Security Administration before joining EM earlier this year.

Mr Buchan said: “We believe we can play an important role in using our unique skills to help EM advance their mission.

“It was an honour for us to welcome Mr White to Barrow to show him the work we do and the capabilities we have. He was able to learn more about our nuclear transport program and got the chance to see the vessels for himself.”

A key part of the INS strategy is to use their nuclear shipping expertise to help international partners tackle their own nuclear challenges and support global nuclear security efforts.
