Ulverston based architectural and sculptural metalworkers CB Arts have been awarded a premier contract to deliver a new public art scheme in Doncaster.
Doncaster Council awarded the contract for the public artwork – which will create a major new feature at Doncaster Station – as part of a wider regeneration to transform the forecourt and station entrance into an open, vibrant, welcoming and easily accessible new arrival point for visitors.
CB Arts Director and Founder Chris Brammall will be working closely with the Doncaster client team to design develop a series of bespoke steel totems which celebrate engineering, speed and connectivity. Stretching 40 metres in length the public art will consist of 47 monoliths which are a nod to Doncaster’s past, present and future. With a fountain and three impressive water walls, the art will take centre stage in the new public space as you step out of the train station and head into the town centre.
Chris Brammall comments “We are thrilled to win this major contract with Doncaster Council which is a real boost to our portfolio of public art works across the Country. The artwork design embraces the history and heritage of locomotive engineering in Doncaster and combines my passion for metalwork, engineering and construction and these elements bring strength and scale in the design. The public art is something locals can be proud of as well as offering a landmark welcome for visitors arriving into the town.”
Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “This public art reflects our history and our future and will be a real statement piece when people arrive in Doncaster by train. It celebrates our rich rail and horse racing heritage which are still important for the town today and will be in the future.”

His quality of design with the added advantage that the organisation – CB Arts – fabricates and installs the public art will see a landmark piece created for this premiere train station redevelopment. Given the importance of this project, in creating a top class gateway into Doncaster town centre, we are confident we have chosen the correct organisation and look forward to displaying the finished product.”
The artworks are due for installation towards the end of the year.
