Over 2,000 workplace healthchecks have been carried out in Cumbria since October – with a target of 9,000 to be achieved by the end of the March
Cumbria Health is working with Cumberland and Westmorland & Furness councils to undertake the checks, which they said had seen heightened morale and improved employee wellbeing.
The workplace healthchecks have been delivered digitally and in person by qualified healthcare professionals, assessing key health indicators such as blood pressure, cholesterol, and BMI, alongside personalised advice on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The innovative digital checks can be ordered by the employee who will undertake the health test themselves using a cutting edge first of its kind lateral flow cholesterol test and accompanying mobile app which will provide the test results instantly in a fully personalised health report.
BAE Systems in Barrow is one of the firms which has taken part.
Ruth Pilcher, SHE Manager at BAE Systems Submarines, said: “We are proud to have taken part in the NHS healthchecks – face-to-face and remote through the NHS portal.
“They have already shown impactful results, with many employees gaining valuable insights into their health and taking proactive steps towards better wellbeing.
“Working collaboratively with the NHS illustrates our commitment to fostering a healthier workforce and prioritising accessible and preventative support.”
Lisa Brown, Cumberland Council’s deputy leader and adults and community health portfolio holder, said: “I was absolutely thrilled that we were successful in our bid to be part of this pilot project. Improving health and wellbeing is at the heart of our ambitions at Cumberland Council.
“We also want to take a preventative approach to tackling any health issues faced by our residents.
“The checks can be carried out digitally or in person, and can help identify any underlying heart issues.
“I’d encourage any employers who are interested in offering the checks to their staff to get in touch.”
The organisations said they were especially keen to engage with businesses in the agriculture, manufacturing, construction, mining and maintenance sectors.
