Two Sellafield employees have been recognised for their work in inclusion and innovation.

Anouschka Van Mourik and Kiara Orchard, both from Whitehaven, have been nominated in the Future List Game Changers category of the Northern Power Women Awards.

The awards recognise trailblazing individuals driving inclusion and innovation across the north.

Commissioning engineer Anouschka joined Sellafield as a graduate two years ago. Kiara, an assistant project manager, started in 2019 as an apprentice.

Anouschka co-chairs the Sellafield Gender Balance Network and acts as a STEM ambassador. She was shortlisted for her work championing gender equality and inclusion.

She said: “It’s been great to play a part in the rollout of diversity initiatives at Sellafield and I’ve found the experience really rewarding.

“Inspiring young people as a STEM ambassador and working with a fantastic team has been an honour. I look forward to continuing this important work this year.

“Being recognised alongside so many inspiring women is truly humbling, and I’m really looking forward to attending the ceremony.”

Kiara has been recognised for delivering gender equality and inclusion initiatives in the workplace. The work includes co-chairing the Sellafield Menohub.

She said: “I’ve always been passionate about fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment in the workplace. Championing initiatives has been incredibly fulfilling and it’s been an honour to see how these changes make a tangible difference in people’s lives.

“Being recognised for my efforts is a tremendous honour. I’m proud to be recognised and stand alongside other remarkable women who are leading the way in creating positive change.”

Now in its eighth year, the Northern Power Women Awards is the largest celebration of gender equality in Europe.

This year’s awards take place on March 18 at Manchester Central Convention Complex.
