PR agency expands with new recruits

A Carlisle PR agency is expanding by taking on three new members of staff.

Intro, based on Paternoster Row, has recruited social media specialist Maddie Roe, account manager Amber Patterson, and writer Mark Walton.

Maddie, of West Cumbria, graduated from Newcastle University in 2023 with a degree in business, media, communications and cultural studies. After graduating, she gained experience in agency-based marketing, working with a range of clients in different industries, but decided to return home to Cumbria to be closer to family and friends.

Carlisle-born Amber also studied in Newcastle, earning a first-class degree in fashion communication at Northumbria University. She began her career at Twist, a Tyneside PR and marketing agency, where she progressed to the role of digital marketing manager.

Having previously been a freelance writer for Intro, Mark returns after working for the Evening Standard in London.

He brings a wealth of experience from his 33-year career in journalism, including more than 20 years with Cumbrian Newspapers.

New equity partners for Cumbrian law firm

Nicola Nutley and Paul Brown

Burnetts Solicitors has appointed two new equity partners.

Paul Brown, a serious injury partner and Nicola Nutley, head of banking and property finance, join the firm’s seven equity partners and are now part-owners of the firm.

Paul is brain injury lead and joined Burnetts in 2018. He is recognised by Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners. Nicola joined the firm in 2021 and is a leading banking lawyer recognised by Chambers and Partners.

Nick Gutteridge, Burnetts’ managing partner, said: “Paul and Nicola absolutely embody our values and their care for and dedication to our clients, is exceptional. We couldn’t ask for better examples of what we stand for here at Burnetts and so it’s with great pleasure that we welcome them as equity partners.”

Australian auctioneer joins Harrison & Hetherington

Jack Harper

A 23-year-old livestock auctioneer from Australia has joined Cumbria’s Harrison & Hetherington to gain experience of the industry in Britain.

Jack Harper, from New South Wales, has been working as an auctioneer for three years and an agent for five with Allan Gray & Co.

He has joined Harrison & Hetherington on an internship to learn about livestock trading in the UK, and to compare and contrast livestock markets between the northern and southern hemispheres.

He said: “In Australia, we primarily handle commercial stock, with a few pedigree ram sales, so spending time with Harrison & Hetherington will be an entirely new experience. The UK livestock market is fascinating, and I’ve already noticed the similarities and differences in how auctions are conducted.”

Jack plans to stay in the UK until the end of the year, aiming to refine his auctioneering skills and deepen his understanding of the UK livestock industry.

The placement comes after Jack researched the UK Livestock Association and connected with Harrison & Hetherington, which saw the value in bringing an Australian perspective to its own operations.

Promotion for Cumbrian accountancy team member

Peter Ellwood and Shannon Tubman

A West Cumbrian accountancy firm has announced the appointment of a new accountancy partner.

robinson+co announced the promotion of Shannon Tubman to partner this week, marking a significant milestone in his career and a proud moment for the firm, which has offices in Workington, Whitehaven, and Gosforth.

Shannon, of Whitehaven, joined the firm in July 2013 as a graduate trainee, just weeks after completing his university studies.

Shannon’s promotion brings the firm’s number of Partners to five as it continues to grow its client base and expand its services.

Peter Ellwood, managing partner at robinson+co, said: “We’re thrilled to see Shannon step into this new role as Partner. He’s been a familiar face at the firm for many years and a constant source of support to colleagues and clients alike.

“His promotion is well-earned and reflects the dedication and high standards he brings to his work. I’ve no doubt he’ll continue to play a key role in the future of robinson+co.”
