A charity which helps businesses become more energy efficient has rebranded to make more impact in Cumbria.
Cumbria Action for Sustainability is now known as Futureproof Cumbria in a move which it is hoped will help more clearly define its mission to help homes, businesses and communities use less energy, reduce reliance on fossil fuels and create a healthier, more sustainable Cumbria.
Since it was founded in the late 1990s as Eden Local Agenda 21, the charity has grown from a local initiative into an authority on climate change.
In 2008 it became Cumbria Action for Sustainability expanding its reach and pioneering efforts to reduce fossil fuel use.
Over the years, the award-winning organisation has helped thousands of Cumbrian residents make their homes warmer, supported businesses to become more energy efficient, delivered platinum-accredited climate education, and worked alongside partners to build a greener, fairer future.
Now the organisation says there is a need for a name that speaks clearly to all audiences, particularly those unfamiliar with its work.
“While CAfS has meant a lot to those that know us, it hasn’t always been clear to new audiences who we are or what we do,” said Karen Mitchell, CEO of Futureproof Cumbria.
“As we work to reach even more people and drive more climate action, we need a name that is clear, confident, and future-focussed. Futureproof Cumbria does just that – it reflects our mission to tackle climate change, while making it easier for people to find us and get involved.”
The charity says its’ new identity brings a fresh, modern look and feel, whilst staying true to its core mission: reducing reliance on fossil fuels, saving energy and strengthening community involvement and resilience.
Unlike CAfS, Futureproof Cumbria will not be shortened to an acronym, ensuring a strong and consistent presence across all platforms.
“We might have a new name and a new look, but at our heart, we’re still the same organisation,” Karen added. “Our commitment to tackling climate change in Cumbria remains unwavering. We’re simply making it clearer, bolder, and easier for everyone to join us.”
The rebrand comes at a crucial time, as the organisation ramps up efforts to help Cumbria transition to a more sustainable future.
