
A popular Lake District garden centre has been sold to a national chain.
It has been announced that British Garden Centres, which operates 73 sites nationwide, has acquired Ambleside’ Hayes Garden World, which was a member of the Tillington Group.
It will be renamed Hayes Garden Centre.
In the year to December 2023, sales fell at Hayes Garden World to £12.7m and losses increased to -£2.1m.
Martin Capell, owner of Hayes Garden World, said: “We are delighted to be handing the reins of Hayes over from one family to another.
“We would like to thank our wonderful customers for their business over the decades and our loyal team, both past and present, for all their hard work, leadership, commitment, and friendship.
“This is an exciting time for the business and we wish everybody involved the very best.”
