[A] Kirkby Lonsdale inn that has been named one of the country’s most dog-friendly venues has pledged its support to a local animal rescue charity.

The Sun Inn, a two AA rosette restaurant and boutique inn, has announced Kendal-based Animal Rescue Cumbria as its official charity partner for the next year.

The partnership comes as the popular venue was recently listed as one of the top 10 most dog-friendly venues in the UK by Country Life magazine.

Iain Black, who owns the Sun Inn with his wife, Jenny, said: “The decision to support Animal Rescue Cumbria as our official charity was an easy one. Jenny and I are both dog lovers ourselves and the Sun Inn itself is doggy heaven for guests who want to bring their four-legged friends with them on holiday or out for dinner, thanks to our dog-friendly guest rooms and dining area.

“Animal Rescue Cumbria does an incredible job in rescuing and re-homing dogs and cats in Cumbria, and we’re looking forward to helping them raise vital funds over the course of the next year. We’re sure all of our guests who bring their beloved pets along with them when they visit us will certainly join us in supporting this fantastic charity.”

A host of activities are being planned over the course of the next 12 months, including a sponsored dog walk, and furry guests to the Sun Inn will also be able to enjoy luxury dog biscuits specially created by the kitchen team, with a donation going straight to the charity.

Amanda Hall, general manager of Animal Rescue Cumbria, said: “We were really pleased to be contacted by Iain, it’s an ideal partnership because the Sun Inn is such a dog-friendly venue. Raising funds as a small charity is always a challenge, so any support is extremely appreciated. Our priority as an animal shelter is rescuing and re-homing dogs and cats – so far this year we have found new homes for 59 dogs and 75 cats. But of course, our work is always ongoing, so any support and fundraising will always have a huge impact on what we do.”
