The Old Parlour, Alston

[A] new shop has opened in Townfoot, Alston CA9 3HX called The Old Parlour, selling all hand made goods. Initially the shop will be open Thursdays and Fridays 10am to 4.30pm.

The owner, Iris Down, is a qualified seamstress and has been sewing all her life. She was taught by her mum making everything by hand until they acquired an old cast iron hand crank sewing machine. A great step forward! Now she uses a computerised machine with over two hundred different stitches, progress indeed!

Iris sources all the designer, traditional and modern fabric she uses and also designs and makes her own fabrics, incorporating chenille, patchwork and other styles.

She sells basically anything that she can sew. Cushion covers in various sizes which can be purchased with quality pads, wraparound, half and full length aprons and hand bags for every occasion, dressy and casual, shopping and for the beach and also lightweight jackets.

Iris also takes orders for seat covers, cushions, curtains and more. Customers can choose from her extensive selection of fabrics or bring their own.

Iris would love to see you at her shop or she can be contacted at [email protected] or via her website theoldparlour.net.
