On Tuesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their Annual Show and Sale of 9,000 North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs. This sale was once again generously sponsored by Eden Farm Supplies & PFK Land Agency.

An excellent entry of Mule Gimmer Lambs looked very well on the day. Despite the slow start to the autumn sheep sale season regular buyers came from far and wide. Local buyers were also in great form after a strong shearling sale at Penrith earlier in the month.

Trade proved to be very pleasing, with a better than expected overall average of £80.25 achieved, down only £10.50 on the year. This compared very favourably with other northern livestock markets. A 100% clearance was had, which was outstanding considering other centres.

Topping the sale was the Champion pen from Messrs Lord, West Dowgill with ten outstanding, strong lambs, achieving £280, purchased by regular customers, Messrs Winter Bros, Clickham.

The early morning prize judging saw a quality gathering of show pens forward to this year’s judges Bobby Hayton, Fell Farm House & Richard Little, Low Moor Dyke, with Trevor Foster, Rye Hill being on standby as referee.

The following prizes were awarded:-
