Hearing the famous – ‘I’m out’ – statement from some of the UK’s leading multi-millionaire investors might make most budding entrepreneurs and inventors reach for the closed sign, but despite hearing that very phrase first hand, one Cumbria based company isn’t about to let it stop them striving for success.

Richard Bowness of Lake District based Truncator appeared on the popular BBC Two show Dragon’s Den when they pitched their unique chainsaw sawhorses to the panel of five Dragon investors. Despite not securing any investment the business is going from strength to strength in the wake of the publicity generated from their appearance, as well as sheer determination and hard work from the Truncator team.

The Truncator Trailer Tipper

Four years on in early 2017, Richard began design and prototyping work on the latest highly innovative addition to the award-winning product range:

The Truncator Trailer Tipper – a revolutionary trailer-loading chainsaw sawhorse!

Developed with the aim of making on-site log production significantly more energy efficient and cost effective, the Truncator TT makes the clearing of downed trees and timber heaps infinitely easier, faster and safer.

By combining the existing Truncator multi-log chainsaw sawhorse with a robust trailer mount and lifting mechanism, the new unit is capable of throwing 20+ kg of cut logs over a 1.2m high trailer side in one quick and easy lift.

Manufactured in Scotland by renowned agricultural fabricator Ritchie Ltd, the TT is both built to last and priced to sell at £485 incl VAT. The prototype TT won the Silver Innovation Award at the 2017 Royal Highland Show, and the new production unit is stronger, lighter and even more effective thanks to the input of the engineers at Ritchie.

RHASS Chief Steward of Technical Innovation, Christopher Shepherd commented “The Technical Innovation Awards are an important and influential accolade for manufacturers, distributors, providers and inventors. They provide a prestigious platform to promote new ideas, whether conceived in the farm workshop or on the test benches of multi-national manufacturers. Being recognised for these awards is a huge honour and acknowledges the work and commitment necessary to develop new products – the RHASS congratulate them on their outstanding achievement.”

Richard adds “Customers always ask me how did it feel being on Dragon’s Den – it’s a real talking point. My advice to anyone considering taking part in the show is to go for it – seize the opportunity and don’t give up if you don’t secure investment. The launch of our new Truncator TT unit is a fantastic example that it’s possible to go on and achieve success without it.”
