Carlisle Castle will be the backdrop for the city’s first ever NatWest Women in Business event on Wednesday 10 October.
Women from all walks of business life, from seasoned company owners to fledgling entrepreneurs, are welcome for an afternoon of networking and comparing notes on north Cumbria’s business scene.
Entry to the event, at Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life within the castle walls, is free and open to all.
Included in the afternoon is a talk from guest speaker Joan Lind, who spent 20 successful years in Australia and the UK as a senior executive with global advertising giants such as M&C Saatchi, and lives near Kendal.
Joan now runs the online ticketing facilitators trybooking.co.uk, a concept she brought to Britain from Australia. Her business is proof, she says, that there are no barriers to stop Cumbrian women realising their business ambitions.
“I know some people talk about geography. They say we’re in the middle of nowhere. But it’s not true, and I know – I was brought up in the Highlands.
“We can forget just how fortunate we are. Cumbria is brilliantly located for business – our links to big conurbations are good. I can happily make a day trip to London.
“And as for being a woman in business – I don’t see any difference in what men and women can achieve. You just have to be proactive.”
Natwest is a dedicated supporter of Women in Business. In 2017 the bank lent more than £138m to help women boost their businesses.
Catherine Woodman, senior relationship manager at NatWest in Carlisle and one of the event organisers said: “We’ve always been proud to support women in business in Carlisle which is why we’re so pleased to launch this event in the city.
“Our Women in Business Specialists already offer advice and support to women who run a company or are planning a new venture. Our Women in Business event helps to bring more of us together for a chance to network and hear from other inspirational entrepreneurs like Joan from trybooking.com.”
The NatWest Women in Business event takes place at Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life from 1:30pm and closes at 3.30pm. Refreshments will be served.
Spaces are free but availability is limited. Book online through Eventbrite: http://bit.ly/natwestWIB
