Thanks to members voting at The Cumberland’s AGM, held on the evening of 16 July, the region’s largest building society donated over £18,000 to Barnardo’s.
Each year the organisation pledges a donation to a local charity for every vote it receives, and this year Barnardo’s was chosen as the beneficiary. A total of £18,813 was handed over to Helen Evans, Regional Fundraising Manager of Barnardo’s by Des Moore, Chief Executive, and Trevor Hebdon, The Cumberland’s outgoing Chairman.
Commenting at the AGM, Des said, “The response from our members has been outstanding again this year and I would like to thank everyone who voted. As a customer-owned organisation we are committed to making a positive difference and supporting the communities we live and work in.”
He continued, “Barnardo’s commitment to supporting young people and their families in order to achieve their ambitions and potential in a positive and engaging way is inspiring and, importantly, is making an incredible difference to the lives of many young people in our region. We’re privileged to be working together with them this year.”
Helen Evans, Regional Fundraising Manager at Barnardo’s said: “We are delighted that The Cumberland has chosen to support Barnardo’s and are extremely grateful for this donation, which will be used to support vulnerable children and families through our services in this region. We also look forward to working closely with the team at The Cumberland through volunteering opportunities, financial awareness training and other exciting events that they are already planning with our young people.”
