A showcase offering an insight into some of the opportunities on offer at BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness takes place in venues across Cumbria this week.

From steelworkers and electricians, to mechanical fitters and welders, the business is specifically targeting those with a recognised trade during a series of recruitment roadshows in Carlisle, Workington, Lancaster, Kendal and Barrow.

BAE Systems is looking to recruit both core and agency employees to support the build of the Dreadnought class – Britain’s future nuclear deterrent, which will eventually replace the Vanguard class.

Current BAE Systems employees will be on hand to explain the variety of jobs on offer, the skills needed and benefits available.

Darren Brackwell, BAE Systems Head of Operations Strategy and Capability, said: “This is a golden opportunity to join a world class business and be involved in one of the world’s greatest engineering and manufacturing projects. Dreadnought is at the cutting edge of technology and we need people with a variety of skills and experience to help us deliver this complex and exciting programme.”

As well as speaking to those with recognised trades, BAE Systems would also like to meet and speak to people with transferable skills.

BAE Systems has recently opened a new £25m Academy for Skills and Knowledge at its Barrow site, to support the ongoing training and development of its employees.
