A landmark report into the economic opportunities surrounding the clean energy agenda for the North West will be revealed next week.

Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership chairman Lord Inglewood will help launch the Net Zero North West Economic Investment Prospectus at an online event on Wednesday.

The event is organised by Net Zero North West, an industry-led partnership looking to become the UK’s first low carbon industrial cluster by 2030 and drive investment into the net zero economy.

The report will reveal the game-changing opportunities across the North West that will drive the journey to net zero and help meet the aspirations of the Prime Minister’s 10-point plan for a green industrial revolution.

The launch event will open with a keynote address from the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Kwasi Kwarteng.

Following a summary of the report’s key findings, a roundtable discussion with business and political leaders will explore this unique opportunity to pump prime the North West’s green industrial revolution.

Joining Lord Inglewood for the panel discussion will be:

  • Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester;
  • Steve Rotheram, Mayor of Liverpool City Region;
  • Carl Ennis, Chairman, Net Zero North West and CEO, Siemens UK;
  • Clare Hayward, MBE, DL, Chair, Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership;
  • Sarah Kemp, Chief Executive, Lancashire Local Enterprise Partnership.

Lord Inglewood said: “I’m delighted that Cumbria LEP has been invited to participate in this prestigious launch event.

“I look forward to setting out my thoughts as to how Cumbria, with its unique history and expertise in clean energy, can play a full part in ensuring that the North West can take a national lead on clean growth.

“Significant opportunities lie ahead as we work together to advance the region’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and design an economy that is genuinely fit for the future.”

The online event takes place on Wednesday from 2pm to 3pm.
