A Cumbrian law firm has been named among the UK’s best places to work for women.

Burnetts, which has offices in Carlisle and Cockermouth is among 263 UK organisations to have achieved a place in Great Place to WOrk’s list following anonymous reports from its workforce.

Staff said it provided a great workplace for all, it strived for fair representation for women in the workforce and helped female and male employees reach their full potential.

The law firm, one of the largest in the North of England, was recognised for going over and above to make its workplace a positive place for women by introducing an enhanced maternity policy, offering flexible working for all employees to fit work around life, providing free sanitary products for employees, holding educational talks and awareness sessions on menopause and crucially, ensuring equal pay across male and female employees.

Burnetts employs 140 people – 75 per cent are female and 44 per cent are in senior roles.

Claire Harrison, head of people, said: “It is our aim to be the best employer for everyone, however we are thrilled to be recognised as a workplace where women can really thrive and maximise their potential.”

Nick Gutteridge, managing partner of Burnetts, added: “It is immensely pleasing for the business to be recognised by such a large proportion of our colleagues as an increasingly inclusive workplace. We will continue to strive to improve our working environment for all so that we can continue to attract and retain the best people to work with us.”
