Entrepreneur and author Claire Brumby will be joining Cumbrian businesses next month for a debate about work-life balance.
Since the pandemic there has been a renewed focus on the issue with many companies embracing flexible working and even four-day weeks in an effort to develop better ways of working that don’t have a negative impact on family and personal life.
Such hot topics will be the focus of the popular LA23NET business network when it gathers in Kirkby Lonsdale on October 13.
The discussion will be led by Claire Brumby who is listed as one of the top ten business speakers in the country and has written a book about being successful without selling your soul.
She knows all about the costs of getting your work-life balance wrong and she describes her 25 years in business as ‘one hell of a journey’.
Claire said: “I am really looking forward to coming to Cumbria again, speaking at LA23NET and getting to heart of what success means for business leaders. I make time for the things I enjoy, and when I’m working in my business, I do so fiercely.”
Claire famously took her Scrubbys Crisps brand on to Dragon’s Den and lost out in a bruising encounter before then going on to prove them wrong and make a huge success of the business.
It proved to be at a cost though and after surviving a life-threatening illness she has now established herself as a popular speaker, business coach and best-selling author.
She is also a cold water swimmer who has crossed the channel as well as swimming the length of Windermere.Claire added: “I speak not only through the eyes of a successful business owner but also as a woman and mum of three. I’ve faced life threatening illness, swam the freezing cold waters of the English Channel, dug deep into inner resilience and kept going when others doubted me.”
The monthly LA23NET meetings are now run by Cumbrian PR firm Intro, with October’s event set to take place at The Royal Barn in Kirkby Lonsdale.
Helen Statham, director of Intro, said: “Work-life balance must be one of the top issues for business owners now – for our own wellbeing and for the impact it has on recruitment and staff retention so I can’t wait to hear what Claire has to say about it.”
The Cumberland Building Society, Edwin Thompson and NXT Recruitment have also been joined as sponsors of LA23NET by Harrison Drury.
John Osborne, partner at Harrison Drury, said: “I am looking forward to learning all about Claire’s journey and how we can place health and wellbeing at the top of the workplace agenda.
“As chair of Harrison Drury’s People, Health and Wellbeing Committee I am proud of what we have achieved in helping people achieve a work/life balance but am aware we can always learn from others and keep trying to do more”.
Places for the LA23NET event are now available to be booked online.
