A South Cumbrian brewery has installed 114 solar panels to help reduce its carbon footprint.
Lakes Brew Co in Kendal said the panels will reduce its energy consumption by 50 per cent at its peak and reduce its carbon dioxide output by nine tonnes a year.
It said it was conscious that the brewing process and many elements that go with it were hugely energy hungry and it needed to try and do more.
Michelle Gay, co-founder and creative director, said: “To invest in our future, not only as a business but from an environmental point was an easy one. Where we live and work is massively dependent on natural beauty and outdoor spaces and for us to try and preserve this for future generations is something we will always try and achieve, from the start we were very conscious in reducing our plastic usage, such as pump clips and packaging, so this is great to be able to keep that ethos moving.”
