An auction house on the Cumbria and Lancashire border is set to build a 14,000sq ft saleroom on its existing site, set to open later this year.
1818 Auctioneers, based at the J36 Rural Auction Centre, said it would add much needed capacity for its growing sales, which had led to three consecutive record years for the business.
The firm celebrates its 10th anniversary operating from the auction centre later this year after relocating from its former site in the centre of Kendal in 2013.
Auction manager Bill Nelson said: “The new building is not the only expansion for us at the auction house, as our in-house team of specialists continues to develop.
“After 22 successful years in the industry, Simon Thompson joined us earlier in the year as assistant manager and Auctioneer and Ewan Duff is the latest specialist to join the team to head up our art department.
“As work on the new build commences late in the summer, the large series of weekly online timed auctions will continue for our customers. Our aim is for the new building to be operational at the end of 2023.”
