A Workington nuclear fabrication business has been acquired by West Cumberland Engineering.
The firm, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shepley Engineers, has bought TIS Cumbria Limited, based on Derwent Howe.
The firm said it would continue the growth of the Shepley Group and expands its portfolio of nuclear specialist capabilities.
TIS was founded in September 1995 by managing director Tony O’Pray.
The acquisition will double the West Cumberland Engineering workshop capacity and increase crane capability, so it can continue to deliver its current workload and expand its capacity for new and existing clients, supporting nuclear decommissioning, nuclear new build and SMRs.
The acquisition secures the future of hundreds of highly skilled employees across the region, the firm said.
Gavin Jakubowski, Shepley Group managing director, said: “The Shepley Group has been providing crucial support for the nuclear industry for over 75 years and by bringing TIS into the group, we are futureproofing our business and accelerating its growth.
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming the TIS team into the Shepley family and continuing to provide clients with a high quality, reliable service.”
Tony O’Pray, TIS managing director, added: “I am delighted that TIS Cumbria has found a new home within the Shepley Group that will allow it to continue to grow and develop.
“As I now step back from my role, I look forward to seeing the team thrive under the new ownership, bringing an exciting new chapter for the workforce.”
