Staff from Cumbrian-based financial planners, Stan Sherlock Associates (SSA), have prevented more than 400 plastic bottles going to landfill.
Since establishing a staff refill room in August 2022, they have successfully re-used 420 single use plastic bottles.
The firm’s directors, husband-and-wife team Bobby and Emma Sherlock, are passionate about fostering a greener future for the business, and transitioned to a paperless operation in 2020.
The refill room initiative enables staff at SSA to refill their plastic bottles with essential items such as washing up liquid, liquid detergent, softener and antibacterial spray, for free.
As an extra incentive, if they reuse the same bottle 10 times, they are given a house plant, as a symbol of growth and sustainability.
Director Emma Sherlock, said: “I’m so proud of our refill room. Our journey towards sustainability is a shared responsibility; it’s for all of us to do our part.
“As SSA celebrates 35 years in business this year, we aim to mark this milestone by initiating more eco-friendly programmes.
“Later this quarter we’ll be planting a 200-tree woodland in North Cumbria with our team and their families.
“Going green isn’t a trend; it’s all about inspiring positive change one small step at a time.”
