Over 80 businesses from across the region attended the 10th annual Carlisle Skills Fair on Thursday 25th January.
The event was hosted and organised by Carlisle MP John Stevenson and took place at Carlisle College.
A wide range of local employers were present, including sponsors The Cumberland, Persimmon Homes and Pladis, the parent company of McVities and carr’s biscuits.
Local businesses and organisations such as Nestle, Pirelli, Komatsu Forest Ltd, North West Ambulance Service, BAE Systems and Barclays Bank were also in attendance.
Hundreds of students and local job seekers were able to talk with employers and education and training providers about career options and opportunities.
John Stevenson said: “My 10th Annual Carlisle Skills Fair has been the best and the busiest one yet.
“We have had employers join us from right across Cumbria meeting with local people who are looking for work and the next steps to a career of their choice.
“I want local people to have the opportunity to access the jobs of the future. No longer do young people have to move away to gain that dream job.
“Work starts on the organisation of the skills fair six months before it takes place, so thank you to everyone who attended and all who have helped to make the event a success. See you all next year!”
Tony Ferguson from Dodd & Co. Accountants said: “Dodd & Co were delighted to be supporting the Carlisle skills fair again this year as we have for each of the previous nine years.
“It’s fantastic to be involved in such a wonderful showcase of opportunity for the young people of Carlisle and the surrounding areas which demonstrates just how many different options and career routes are available right here in Cumbria.”
