A family-owned bakery in Cumbria is gearing up for a busy Valentine’s Day with Aldi, with its novelty heart-shaped crumpets expected to fly off the shelves.
Based in Carlisle, Lakeland Bake has been supplying the supermarket with its own-label crumpets since it opened in 2006, and now supplies stores across the UK with more than five million packets per year.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the heart-shaped crumpets are available in Aldi stores across the country and follow the success of its other fun creations, such as a Christmas tree, Easter bunny and a Halloween ghost.
The long-term partnership with Aldi has helped the bakery enjoy significant growth over the years, including site expansion and increasing their workforce by a third to meet the growing demand.
Lee Ingram, account manager at Lakeland Bake, said: “We are pleased to be supplying our special heart-shaped crumpets to Aldi stores across the UK this Valentine’s Day.
“Our partnership with Aldi has been vital to growing our business over the last 18 years and the support has meant we can continue to invest in our team as well as product innovation.”
Julie Ashfield, managing director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “Lakeland Bake has been a trustworthy supplier over the last 18 years and we are delighted to share its heart-shaped delights with our shoppers this Valentine’s Day.
“The partnership we’ve built is invaluable and we look forward to continuing our work with them in the future, bringing more of the team’s wonderful creations to our shelves.”
