Ed Miliband, Shadow Secretary of State of Climate Change and Net Zero has been confirmed as the keynote speaker at the first ever Cumberland Economic Summit on Thursday 29th February.
He will be joined at the Civic Centre event by additional speakers including leader of Cumberland Council Mark Fryer, Carlisle MP John Stevenson and Cumberland Council’s chief executive Andrew Seekings.
The host for the event will be Phil Laycock, Director of UKREiiF / Built Environment Networking Limited.
Mark Fryer said: “Working with local businesses and organisations, we want to build on our priority to deliver an inclusive economy that works for local people.
“We need their knowledge and expertise so that we can put in place an economic strategy that works for Cumberland. We need them to be part of the conversation and we encourage sign-up to the event. Register soon, as places will be limited.”
The summit discussions will link in with Cumberland Council’s Cumberland Plan and the council is keen that strategic partners and stakeholders get the opportunity to help them develop a clear vision for the area.
They want to unlock and generate opportunities for residents, businesses, social enterprises in addition to community and voluntary sectors.
The full day event will be held at the Civic Centre, Rickergate in Carlisle between 9am and 4.30pm and will include a series of facilitated breakout sessions themed around six key areas.
These sessions will explore and develop future actions to address the challenges and maximise the opportunities for Cumberland.
The sessions will be based on:
- Clean and green investment in Cumberland
- Climate change and nature place making
- Destination management and place promotion
- Transport and infrastructure
- Skills and enterprise
