Several Cumbrian businesses have been nominated for prestigious regional awards.

The Family Business Awards North West celebrate the successes of family-run firms – and the people who work in them.

Winners will be announced at an event at Bolton Football Stadium, co-hosted by Dave Clarkson and Sue Howorth, of The Family Business Community, alongside renowned food and drink writer and presenter Nigel Barden on Friday May 10.

Sue said: “With another year of increased entries we have been working with our 23 judges which are representing all five counties of the North West, and we know they have had extremely difficult decisions to make. Our finalists should be extremely proud of themselves for being recognised in this years shortlist.

Dave added: “A huge thank you to everyone who has invested time filling in their application forms. We’ve been absolutely blown away by the strength and diversity and attention to detail in the applications.”

Sunnyside Guest House, in Keswick, is a finalist in the Leisure and Tourism category. It is run by Nicky and Paul Roper.

Paul said: “We are thrilled to have been selected as a finalist. Nicky and I have strived to develop Sunnyside and we are extremely proud for this to be recognised.”

Lakes Sandwiches, based in Kendal, is a finalist for the Community Champion – People’s Choice category.

Mel Walmsley, company director, said: “We are absolutely blown away to have been nominated and now shortlisted for this award. It’s an amazing achievement that makes all the hard work and dedication our whole team put into the day-to-day running of our family business all the more worthwhile and we will be looking forward to celebrating this on May 10.”
