Grasmere Gingerbread has been highly commended in a regional awards ceremony.
The firm, celebrating its 170th anniversary, was shortlisted in the Food & Drink category of the Made in the North West Awards.
Joanne Hunter, co-director, said: “We were absolutely thrilled to be recognised in the middle of our special year-long celebrations.”
Judges for Made in the North West praised Grasmere Gingerbread for its commitment to producing its unique, world-famous cross between a biscuit and cake which, they said, was testament to the quality of food and drink in the region.
They also praised Grasmere Gingerbread for its innovation, commercial success and business development.
It is the third business award in a matter of months for Grasmere Gingerbread, which was invented in 1854 by Victorian cook Sarah Nelson.
As well as their world-famous Grasmere Gingerbread Shop, the business now runs a second shop in Hawkshead and is constantly expanding its range of Sarah Nelson branded products made by local artisan suppliers in Cumbria and the Lake District.
“We enjoyed the evening so much as it is always energising meeting other businesses and organisations from across the North West,” added Joanne.
“There are lots of smaller companies doing amazing things in the region and it was great to see Grasmere Gingerbread® takes its place amongst them at such a positive and celebratory event.”
