Leading professionals from across the UK gathered for the relaunch of a Cumbrian remote nuclear engineering firm.

CORE Nuclear Solutions rebranded earlier this summer and to mark this milestone, the company held a relaunch event at its headquarters, at Lillyhall, near Workington.

The event was attended by industry peers, clients, and staff members.

With speeches from John Grainger and Lee Grears, of BECBC, and CORE’s managing director John McGibbon, people also experienced equipment demonstrations and networking.

Formerly known as PAR Systems UK, the company has been operating from Cumbria since 2010.

In 2021, the company was acquired by local nuclear and engineering professional Mr McGibbon, completing the management buyout from its American parent company PAR Systems LLC.

Now known as CORE Nuclear Solutions, the company currently has 46 team members, predominantly based in West Cumbria providing comprehensive solutions across the full spectrum of remote engineering services.

John Grainger, executive director of BECBC, opened the event and said: “The launch of CORE Nuclear Solutions was the culmination of a journey that began with the arrival of PAR Systems from the USA as an inward investment in Seascale.

“Now is the right time for a rebrand with CORE Nuclear Solutions on the cusp of further expansion.

“CORE is the archetypal member of Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster, which has always looked to collaborate with other members, seek employment for those affected by competitor closure, and, importantly, when supply opportunities are available, John and his team always look first at the Cluster cohort.

“They are a great exemplar of a thriving SME in the Cumberland economy.”

Mr McGibbon said: “It was great to see many of our industry friends, clients and colleagues gather for our relaunch event on Thursday. Our event was a great opportunity to reinforce our commitment to strengthening our offering and social impact here in Cumbria.

“With a strong focus on safety, reliability, and innovation, CORE is dedicated to nurturing the future generation of engineering talent.

“Currently, we have five apprentices and collaborate closely with Lakes College and the local engineering academy Energy Coast UTC.

“The future of CORE will focus on continuing to grow our capability, turnover and workforce, we would like to get to 60 employees in the next two years. Whether it’s solving challenges locally or on a global scale, we strive to lead the nuclear industry forward”.
