Decades of industry experience will bolster connections within Cumbria’s nuclear supply chain and beyond as two new appointments have been made to Britain’s Energy Coast’s Business Cluster’s nuclear sector group.
The appointments were officially announced at the Framing Opportunities meeting in Warrington on Monday, June 10, introducing Emma-Jayne Gooch, CEO of Plain Purpose, as the new chair of BECBC’s nuclear sector group, and Alex Scott, senior commercial manager at Mammoet, into a brand-new role as the nuclear sector group’s regional representative.
With over two decades of facilitating effective business collaborations, BECBC is a premier business networking organisation based in Cumbria. Aligned with its strategy for the new financial year, these appointments will expand the value of membership even further.
Created to support the expansion of member organisations within the nuclear industry, the nuclear sector group draws on Cumbria’s rich nuclear heritage. Emma-Jayne Gooch has extensive experience in the sector.
Having held the role of head of supply chain development and innovation at Sellafield Ltd, Emma-Jayne wrote the company’s first SME strategy and organised events for the supply chain, including Director’s Forums and SME forums.
After being handed the nuclear sector group chair baton from John McGibbon of CORE Nuclear Solutions, Emma-Jayne addressed those who attended the joint BECBC and NNA event.
The day brought together the supply chain to hear about upcoming framework opportunities in nuclear, providing an opportunity for informal networking, and encouraging collaboration to deliver.
The group provides networking opportunities and shares market insights, actively motivating members to cooperate on projects within the region, the UK, and globally.
Alex Scott is the first regional representative within BECBC’s sector groups, and his role aligns with the organisation’s strategy for the next few years. As new nuclear opportunities come forward regionally, nationally and internationally Alex’s role will enable BECBC to represent members in more rooms across a wider area.
His 14-year-long career with Mammoet has positioned him as a key networking contact within the supply chain.
He said: “After many years as a BECBC member, I’ve seen the benefits unfold for countless businesses, received valuable support and built up a bank of connections that have benefited Mammoet. This role puts me in an excellent position to facilitate valuable partnerships within the nuclear industry.
“Cumbria is a hub for nuclear opportunity, and much of that opportunity can be exported further afield. BECBC’s strategy for the next few years looks to garner opportunities outside the county. I will be excited to play a part in the expansion.”
Emma-Jayne Gooch believes that collaboration is at the heart of nuclear success in the region, saying: “I am passionate about making nuclear opportunities visible to the supply chain to help them understand where they will win work and who they need to speak to. I want to create a collaborative environment where members work together to share opportunities to place contracts and to build relationships for bidding.
“I also want to encourage large organisations to share their procurement opportunities. In the nuclear sector group we have a ready-made supply chain that can deliver the majority of the requirements, but they need to know how to access them.”
