Now in its fourth year, commissioning experts MissionCX have announced the return of their industry experience programme.
The event allows students to explore careers in the nuclear and defence sectors, which MissionCX supports with commissioning project delivery.
The programme will run from July 1 to July 5 at Westlakes Science Park in Whitehaven and aims to bring new talent to these sectors within Cumbria.
The event is free for all involved as part of MissionCX’s pledge to make a substantial social impact in the county and beyond.
The week will begin with a morning session featuring skills and work experience sessions from MissionCX, who will lead the way and set the scene for the week: the programme’s history and why it is important to them to make a social impact.
Over the week, organisations such as BAE Systems, Sellafield Ltd, the Royal Navy, KBR and Jacobs will also provide vital insight into their sectors.
These experts will discuss opportunities in the nuclear and defence sectors, and the rest of the week will be packed with sessions and live project tasks from key sector organisations.
There is a significant demand for new talent, with BAE Systems and Sellafield alone aiming to recruit around 1,000 apprentices annually – nearly 25% of Cumbria’s school leavers. The event aims to nurture, inspire and retain even more young, local talent in the future.
Students will be introduced to the nuclear and defence sectors throughout the week and the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) process. They will explore disciplines within engineering and learn about the role of procurement. Insights into the construction and commissioning processes will also be provided.
Ben Slater, managing director of MissionCX, said: “We are pleased to host our industry experience programme once again.
“This event reflects our commitment to developing future talent in the nuclear and defence sectors. By offering students hands-on experience and access to industry leaders, we aim to provide them with the knowledge to pursue careers in these fields.
“MissionCX champions local talent and we are dedicated to building tomorrow’s workforce and ensuring that the transfer of skills from generation to generation continues. New for this year, our programme will end with a careers day open to all students, allowing organisations to engage with potential recruits.”
Students will learn about various careers, from apprenticeships and graduate schemes to specialised roles like engineers, project managers, scientists, welders, and fitters.
