Ugo Monye is the keynote speaker for this year’s Conference Cumbria.

Ugo is a broadcaster, presenter and former professional rugby player who has represented his country 14 times, spent his entire playing career at Harlequins and was selected to tour South Africa with the British & Irish Lions.

After retiring from rugby, Ugo’s transition to TV was immediate becoming a key member of BT Sport’s leading rugby team, a captain on BBC One’s A Question of Sport, and presenting Rugby Special. In 2021, Ugo also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing.

Ugo is a champion of diversity and equality, currently Chairing the RFU’s Diversity and inclusion advisory group and acting as a trustee for both the Women’s Sport Trust and Restart.

Taking place on Thursday October 3 at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal, Conference Cumbria will bring businesses from a variety of sectors together for a day of networking, inspirational talks, a business exhibition and a panel discussion all focused on this year’s theme of Together Towards Tomorrow.

The Chamber is looking to build on the success of last year’s inaugural Conference Cumbria which was a huge hit.

Lesley Robinson, head of business support, said: “Our first Conference Cumbria was a massive success, with this year shaping up to be even better!

“We received fantastic feedback last year and have decided to stick with the winning formula and also to keep ticket and exhibition costs the same.

Ugo will be an amazing keynote speaker and we’re delighted to have secured such a high profile speaker, we’ve also got some other expert speakers lined up with more details to be shared over the coming weeks.

“Don’t miss out on your local conference for local business, we plan to sell all available tickets and exhibition space so book today!”

Other speakers also announced this week are Colin Bell, of Leap the Crowd and Neil Jurd, of Leader Connect.

Sponsors so far confirmed are Leo Group and Cumberland Council, with more to be announced soon.

Tickets are available to purchase from the chamber’s website and are charged at £65 plus VAT for members and £80 plus VAT for non-members, exhibition space can also be purchased with tickets.
