A Cumbrian technology firm that works with clients worldwide unveiled its new offices this week.
Createc, based in Cockermouth, specialises in robotics, radiation measurement, sensing, and AI.
The company works in the nuclear, transport, defence, and security sectors.
Staff welcomed over 100 guests to its new head office on the town’s Wakefield Road today, Thursday, August 1, for an open afternoon to mark the company’s relocation.
The Cumbrian firm has 56 team members on three continents to deploy emerging technologies that help make the world safer and more efficient. Forty of its team members are based at its new Cockermouth headquarters.
Will Newsom, Createc’s chief executive, said, “I’m proud of everyone who has worked tirelessly to enable us to move to this beautiful new facility. This building represents Createc; it will become the stage for showcasing our future technologies and innovations.
“This move is also a major milestone in our five-year growth plan, positioning us to become a larger employer in the local area and further driving our commitment to community development and economic growth.”
Createc is regularly awarded highly competitive Government-backed research and development funding, and for every £1 it receives in grant funding, it generates £9 for the UK economy. The company turned over £7.3million in 2023 and has been growing 23% year-on-year.
Createc’s founder, Matt Mellor, described the company’s journey as ‘incredible’ since its founding in 2010.
He said: “Fourteen years ago, Createc set up in business just 100 metres from our new site in a single-room office with just three employees. This new facility is a testament to the hard work and success of that original team and the many colleagues who have joined us over the years.
“We exist today as a strong team of 56 because we have upheld the same core values and entrepreneurial culture that we started with all those years ago, striving to see emerging technologies go out into the world and make a real impact.
“In the past 12 months alone, we have started projects in three continents and eight separate countries; I’m so proud that we’ve been able to do this from our head office here in Cockermouth.”
With the team’s extensive nuclear experience, Createc developed its highly-regarded N-Visage technology in 2010, used in the clean-up following the Fukushima Daiichi accident in Japan.
Within their offices is a world-leading physicists’ laboratory with first-of-a-kind radiometric devices to measure radiation levels at Fukushima.
The firm has received two Queen’s Awards, one for International Trade and one for Innovation, and a King’s Award for Innovation this year.
Createc’s headquarters will become a hub for further innovation and expansion.
