Barrow shipyard engineer Paul McKenny has competed in dozens of triathlons over the years.
Now he’s gearing up to put his swimming, cycling and running abilities to the test again to raise money for St Mary’s Hospice in Ulverston.
Paul, who will be 61 when he takes part in the Estonian Ironman in Tallinn on Saturday 24 August, has chosen the charity in memory of a close friend and colleague.
The 2.4 mile lake swim, 112 mile cycle and 26.2 mile run is a formidable challenge, but Paul is determined to do his friend and St Mary’s Hospice proud.
He said: “The hospice is a truly very special place that treat patients and families with care, compassion and dignity through every stage of their cancer diagnosis.
“I would like to raise as much as possible and every donation, however small, is greatly appreciated and will help maintain this amazing charity.”
