A Cumbria-based sustainable building firm has doubled its operation.

Ecological Building Systems, a supplier of natural building products for sustainable construction, has doubled the size of its premises by acquiring a new warehouse and office unit next to its existing facilities in Cardewlees, near Carlisle.

The company has relocated its sales, logistics and purchasing teams into the newly refurbished 40,000 sq ft space, as part of its growth and expansion plans.

Penny Randell, director of Ecological Building Systems, said; “We are entering an exciting new era due to increasing demand for more sustainable building products from self builders and the wider construction industry.

“Our expansion into new premises will give us the extra capacity we need to support our customers as the business continues to grow.

“Doubling our warehousing space also means we can introduce efficiencies across our business operations for the benefit of our customers.”

Ecological Building Systems has recently appointed six new staff, including additions to its technical team, purchasing, warehousing and sales.

Within the new premises, Ecological Building Systems has created a showroom which demonstrates its range of natural building products, including insulation materials, airtight and weathertight membranes and ventilation and extraction systems, and the company has ambitious plans to continue to invest in and extend its training facilities in the future.

Penny added: “The extended premises have given us the space to create a comprehensive showcase of products, systems and training facilities, making them accessible to all our customers.

“This will become our ‘showroom for the north’ being easily accessible to customers in Northern England and Scotland, to complement our southern presence in Swindon.”

On Thursday October 17, Ecological Building Systems will host an event as part of Natural Fibre Insulation Week. The event is open to self-builders, home renovators, construction professionals and anyone interest in sustainable energy efficient building who are looking to learn more about use of natural building products.

Neil Turner, Ecological Building Systems’ UK technical manager, said: “This event will be a great opportunity for local self builders or building professionals to see a demonstration of our Passive EcoWall and Retro EcoWall systems, plus there will be the chance to speak to technical experts about building or renovating a house to the highest standards of sustainability and finding products to meet their requirements.”

Ecological Building Systems was established in County Meath, Ireland in 2000, the UK division, headquartered was set up in 2007 and is based at Cardewlees.
