A new training scheme has been launched to help firms upskill their workforce.
PHX Training will support residents of Cumberland with specific skills that will prepare them for progression within or into employment.
Delivered on behalf of Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, with support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, provided through Cumberland Council and Cumbria Business Growth Hub, the contract will also support local employers with recruitment and upskilling skills that will help retain and grow their workforce.
The support will be available at the PHX centres in Carlisle, Workington and Whitehaven, as well as community venues and workplaces within Cumberland.
PHX Training’s employer engagement officers, tutors and key workers will deliver programmes aligned with existing mainstream provision within the area, filling local skills gaps, extending reach and accessibility, and providing additional support and qualifications to support progression in the workplace.
The bespoke programmes will be tailored to the needs of the individual and employer, flexible in duration, and delivered by experienced tutors through one-to-one and small group sessions and digital platforms, PHX said.
Among the sector specific programmes, PHX will be focused on developing skills within the low carbon, digital, logistics and health and care sectors through accredited and non-accredited programmes at level two and three along with soft skills, digital and employability skills and personal licences.
Briony Fawcett, managing director of PHX Training, said: “We’re looking forward to working with Cumberland Council, employers and residents to help the workforce and employers across the region.
“This project is aimed at anyone aged 19 and over who is looking to get themselves into work or progress into a new role or career. For employers, we can help with a range of skills that will attract and retain staff to ensure that your business is running at maximum efficiency with a well-trained and developing workforce.”
