Ulverston STEM event this weekend

The 6th annual UlverSTEM event takes place this weekend aimed at inspiring young people to consider science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Organisers say the event is bigger and even better than previous years and will take place at Ulverston Victoria High School, Springfield Road, Ulverston on Saturday, November 16 between 9.30am and 4pm.

Aimed at six to 16-year-olds, UlverSTEM is a free STEM educational event, an opportunity for young people and their families to discover and be excited about the prospect and opportunities that STEM subjects can offer in terms of education and a career.

The event will feature a whole host of interactive and fun activities including robotics, chemistry experiments and examples how science, technology, engineering and maths can be fun.

Employers from across Cumbria including Siemens Energy, Oxley, Bender UK, Kimberly-Clark, NHS, BAE Systems, GSK, Orsted, the NHS and Cumbria police will also be will be attending to showcase examples of how STEM subjects can be applied to their activities.

There are shows and presentations throughout the day, with guests including the famous Professor Pumpernickel, Science Viking and Science Made Simple.

Career opportunities and skills development will also be key themes of the event and UlverSTEM is partnering with Furness Education & Skills Partnership (FESP) and supported by Cumbria Careers Hub along with colleges and universities.

Free parking is available for visitors to UlverSTEM, the UVHS car park on Springfield Road, Ulverston LA12 0EB will be open, food and drink will also be available to buy in the UVHS canteen.
