A £49.6 million contract for infrastructure at the Low Level Waste Repository at Drigg has been awarded to Graham.
Nuclear Waste Services confirmed the firm’s appointment to deliver its major infrastructure framework at the site.
Graham has been appointed as the contractor for the Integrated Site Works Framework, a four-year contract that will deliver operational projects.
This includes replacing or upgrading ageing infrastructure, carrying out demolition and remediation works, installing and commissioning new systems and supporting future operations at the Repository site.
This work will help optimise the site for future use and ensure continued safety and compliance, said Nuclear Waste Services.
The Low Level Waste Repository in Cumbria is the UK’s principal facility for the disposal of low-level radioactive waste.
Disposal of low level radioactive waste at the repository began in 1959 with waste being placed in lined trenches at the site, near the village of Drigg.
Alastair Lewis, Graham contracts director, said: “Our appointment to the ISWF represents our successful collaboration at the repository site.
“Work will commence this month, and we are committed to providing high-quality solutions in future proofing operations at the site”.

Social value initiatives will include volunteering time to support local community projects, offering professional skills advice, and providing work experience placements for local students.
