Two ships carrying cargoes of mixed oxide (MOX) fuel has arrived in Japan two months after leaving Europe.
The Pacific Heron and Pacific Egret delivered their cargo of 32 MOX fuel assemblies to the Takahama Nuclear Power Station in Japan. The fuel was manufactured in France and transported aboard the Barrow-based ships.
It’s the latest in a series of deliveries by Pacific Nuclear Transport Ltd (PNTL), which is operated by Nuclear Transport Solutions (NTS), and has been transporting nuclear materials between Europe and Japan for 50 years.
“The successful completion of another shipment of Mox fuel to Japan demonstrates again the ability of PNTL and NTS to transport nuclear cargos safely and securely around the world,” Ben Whittard, co-CEO of NTS, said.
