Road logistics firm Wm Armstrong has earned prestigious dairy industry accreditations at its operating sites in Aspatria and Carnforth.

The two new Dairy Transport Assurance Scheme accreditations go alongside the one already in place at its Longtown head office.

The Dairy Transport Assurance Scheme is a UK-based industry standard for the transportation of milk from farms to dairy processors, ensuring that milk haulage meets food safety requirements, industry best practices and customer standards.

It provides assurance to milk purchasers and consumers that the entire milk supply chain is operated to the highest standards, maintaining milk quality, hygiene, and security throughout transport.

The scheme is based on annual inspections of the milk haulage depots operated by scheme members.

The assessment is conducted against 77 standards covering haulage operations, vehicle hygiene, site and statutory requirements, hazard analysis and critical control points, personnel and training, subcontractors and contingency procedures.

Since last April it has been a requirement that all dairy products carrying the Red Tractor logo have to use milk that has been hauled by a DTAS approved haulier.

Ben Smith-Armstrong, Wm Armstrong director, said: “This is welcome recognition of Armstrong’s overriding focus on quality and standards.

“To have three depots with DTAS accreditation is a real indication of all the hard work our staff put in to make sure we provide the best possible service to our clients and customers.

“Milk transportation and working with local farmers has been at the heart of Amstrong’s operations for more than 90 years.

“This is the gold standard accreditation in the dairy transportation sector and I am delighted that our sites in Aspatria and Carnforth have been recognised as high-quality operations serving communities and boosting the economy across Cumbria and Lancashire.”

Wm Armstrong transports milk from farms across Cumbria and Lancashire 365 days a year. Its tankers are equipped with the latest on-board computerised measuring and automatic sampling equipment from 15,000 litre to 30,000 litre capacity, use sophisticated pumping equipment and have steering axles for easy farm access.
