A technology firm has supported a Skills Day at Kendal College.
Held as part of National Apprenticeship Week, the event saw students from across the college’s campuses come together to celebrate skills, creativity and employability.
Like Technology’s operations manager Andy Davy and engineer Dan Jackson attended the event to share their knowledge and insights with students, also taking time out to inspect one of the robots created by the Robotics Club.
Like Technologies provides specialist electronic and control system support to clients including EDF, Sellafield Ltd, Thales and Cavendish Nuclear and has a long history working with the college to provide work placements for T-level students, and also sponsors the Kendal College Robotics Club.
Launched last year, the Kendal College Robotics Club aims to help students to master high-level coding and engineering through hands-on collaboration.
The club recently qualified for the regional finals of the FIRST Tech Challenge, following a competitive tournament in Liverpool.
Andy said: “With the Government’s well-publicised commitment to the industry, nuclear is a great sector to be getting into, and technical education is central to addressing the sector’s workforce needs.
“At Like Technologies we’re committed to playing our part, supporting T-level placements, delivering masterclasses, and contributing to curriculum development through our role on the Electech Innovation Cluster board.
“As well as the technical side, today’s students are motivated by values like sustainability, repairability and long-term impact, which are values directly relevant to careers in nuclear engineering and obsolescence management, so it was great to be able to contribute to Kendal College’s Skills Day and provide some hands-on insights.”
