A Carlisle-based charity has been recognised as a certified great place to work for the first time.

Health and wellbeing charity iCan Wellbeing Group CIO has been certified by the global rating system Great Place To Work.

The prestigious award is based entirely on what current employees say about their experience working in the organisation. This year, 100% of employees said it’s a great place to work.

Great Place To Work is the global authority on workplace culture, employee experience, and the leadership behaviour proven to deliver market-leading revenue, employee retention and increased innovation.

Lisa Bridgewater, chief operating officer and co-founder of iCan alongside Julia Clifford, said: “I am incredibly proud that iCan has received this accolade.

“I would like to thank our amazing team for their hard work, dedication and commitment to the organisation and the communities we support.

“Feedback from our 16 team members shows that we are creating a positive workplace culture, one that values work-life balance, fair pay, and opportunities for learning and personal growth.

“Our staff feel supported by a competent, driven and approachable leadership team, and our greatest achievement is that our team members are happy and genuinely love the work they do.

“The results also give us an opportunity to reflect on where we can improve. Julia, the board of trustees and I welcome the feedback and suggestions from our team, and we are committed to reviewing these carefully and implementing meaningful changes wherever possible.

“This year, we are focused on becoming an accredited Real Living Wage employer and signing the pledge.

“In 2025, iCan supported more than 5,000 people across Cumbria. We operate a successful, welcoming fitness and wellbeing centre in Carlisle with around 500 members attending three to four times each week.

“Alongside this, we deliver a wide range of outreach programmes, including the new 24/7 mental health service in Copeland, Hope Haven, partnerships with the NHS, work in schools through our Mobile Wheels of Wellness, and wellbeing sessions across Cumbrian communities.”
