A specialist firm is setting up its northern hub in West Cumbria.
DP Building Systems will open a new depot at the Sneakyeat Industrial Estate in Whitehaven to help serve its clients, mainly based on the Sellafield site.
The firm, headquartered in the Midlands, is a cabling management specialist.
Its managing director Rob White said the move into West Cumbria was prompted by major long-term contract wins with firms in the area.
One of the only cabling management specialists in the north, Rob said it made sense for the firm to have a base in Cumbria and he hoped it would help the firm expand and win more contracts in the area.
Rob said: “We offer pipework to metal casings – we offer solutions. We want to be a local employer in Cumbria.”
The company was established by his dad, Peter White, and employs 26 people in the Midlands, including apprentices.
When the Cumbrian depot opens, scheduled for next date, it will initially employ three people – but the company has big plans to develop and aims to have apprentices on board later this year.
Rob said: “We’re investing in Cumbria and this is a long-term project for us. It’s a massive investment and we’re very excited about the opportunity.”
