
The operator of a new train service linking England and Scotland has unveiled details of the trains that will run on the route.
Lumo, which already operates services on the East Coast Main Line, is poised to start the services which will call at Carlisle later this year.
The company has opened a new base in Preston creating around 100 jobs. Refurbished class 222 diesel trains will be used on the route.
“This is a significant moment for both Lumo colleagues and the people of Preston as we countdown to officially launching our new West Coast service,” Stuart Jones, managing director of First Rail Open Access, said.
“We’re excited to be investing in our new base in Preston which is creating jobs and supporting the local economy.”
Lumo says low-cost tickets will be on offer between London Euston and Stirling. The new route will call at Milton Keynes, Nuneaton, Crewe, Preston, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Motherwell, Whifflet, Greenfaulds and Larbert.
“We’re delighted to give passengers a sneak peek of our refurbished Class 222 trains,” Steve Harvey, services director UK and Ireland at Alstom, said.
“As Lumo prepares to launch its new West Coast service, we’re thrilled that Alstom’s expertise is helping bring these trains back into service in a vibrant new livery, supporting both regional jobs and the wider rail network.”
