Cumbrian haulier Wm Armstrong has introduced three new bespoke trailers to help celebrate the 80th anniversary of its long-term client Bells of Lazonby.

Brandishing liveries promoting We Love Cake – the flagship brand from Bells of Lazonby exclusively featuring products that are free from gluten, wheat and milk – the trailers display clever straplines linking bakery with road haulage.

The ‘heavenly goods vehicles’ will transport sweet treats from Bells’ iconic bakery in the Eden Valley, to supermarkets, retailers, distribution centres and cash and carry outlets right across the UK.

We Love Cake is now ranked as number two in the UK Free From Sweet Bakery market. The brand’s best-performing cake line sells over a pack a minute in the UK.

The SDC manufactured trailers feature a lightweight design and a height of 4.65m, allowing for an improved payload and reduced fuel consumption.

Additional aero features including a vortex generator on the roof, curved front bulkhead and optimised mudflaps – all helping to reduce drag and emissions.

Wm Armstrong has been providing transport, warehousing and distribution services for Bells of Lazonby, a third-generation family business formed in 1946, for over eight years.

Ben Smith-Armstrong, managing director at Wm Armstrong, said: “We have developed a strong and enduring working relationship with Bells of Lazonby over the years and we are proud to support them in celebrating a significant business anniversary while promoting their globally recognised brand using our continued investment in a modern, efficient and sustainable fleet.

“As well-established family businesses, we share a commitment to quality and integrity, and these common values have been instrumental in building a successful and long-standing partnership.”

Michael Bell, director at Bells of Lazonby, said: “For 80 years, Bells of Lazonby has proudly bought from Cumbrian family businesses whenever possible.

“There is no better example of our local sourcing than the relationship we share with our logistics partner Wm Armstrong of Longtown.

“We are two family owned and managed businesses with our roots firmly in Cumbria and we share the same values and ethos.

“It is wonderful to see our success manifested in three new trailers in the Armstrong fleet, which are brightly liveried in our special diet brand We Love Cake.”
