The University of Cumbria will be represented at a prestigious international business forum to be held in the Isle of Man which aims to strengthen economic connections between Celtic nations.
The university’s senior knowledge exchange manager, Prof Phil Leigh, is attending the Spring Interceltic Business Forum which brings together representatives from the Isle of Man, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany, and Galicia.
Business leaders, innovators and policymakers from across a wide sector are expected to share ideas and explore new commercial opportunities.
Prof Leigh is spearheading the Irish Sea Rim initiative, a project which aims to build better communication, economic wealth and cultural ties around the area with Cumbria playing an important part.
“The Isle of Man is embedded at a strategic part of the Irish Sea Rim and points of all corners and countries,” Prof Leigh told Business Crack.
“It’s a test site for technology and a centre for innovation and collaboration.”
This week’s event is hosted by the Isle of Man government’s agency Business Isle of Man and takes places at the Villa Marina in Douglas.
Speakers include representatives from the Scottish Business Network, Cornwall Council, the Irish Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Lloyds Bank International with topics including Artificial Intelligence, regenerative tourism and maritime among those to be discussed.
