Leading law firm Bendles is set to acquire a Whitehaven solicitors.

Bendles Solicitors, which has offices in Carlisle and Wigton, is to acquire Bleasdale & Co Solicitors.

Bendles, which also own the estate agency Tiffens Estate Agents, Bleasdale & Co has been in the Whitehaven area for around 100 years.

A spokesman said: “The acquisition is seen by both firms as being complimentary, as they are in different legal markets but have very similar expertise and cover similar areas of law such as property, private client, matrimonial and childcare.”

Jonty Hanlon, of Bendles, said: “We are delighted with this acquisition, as it continues our ambition to expand. Bleasdales and ourselves cover similar areas of law, which will deepen the expertise in the business. It also allows us to expand into a different market area, which we feel will be beneficial for our collective client base.

Pam Thomas, director at Bleasdale & Co Solicitors, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Bendles Solicitors. We think this will strengthen the offering to our clients in the West Cumbria area and help deliver an even better service. The fact that we cover similar areas of law will strengthen the advice and support that we can give to our clients.”

Bleasdales was advised by legal sector specialist accountants Armstrong Watson and lawyers Bennett Briegal.

Bendles acted in house, with the assistance of Saint & Co accountants.
